My five year old (55k+ miles) Eibach Pro setup has been great thus far... the shocks/stuts are actually made by Sachs. So, Sachs gets me vote.
Owner reviews for shock absorbers
Finished the install today. Everything is perfect. Eibach prokit + koni Str.t shocks = perfection for NJ roads under $600. 26" ftg all around and ride is a great middle ground between coilovers and stock suspension. Rides like a stock gti. Which is exactly what I wanted. No floatiness, but you don't lose your fillings going over bumps. Very controlled and balanced ride. This is a fantastic pairing and you will not be disappointed.
Original owner of a 2005 Reflex Silver 5MT 4Motion GLS wagon. Currently with 108,xxx miles. It has all options available for that year plus now with several mods incl: Votex ground effects kit and W8 rear bumper (painted to match) H&R lowering springs and Koni shocks Revo ECM flash (pushing about 21 psi boost)
The last GTI I drove was my 337 with coil overs. But I would never do anything that harsh again on a DD. The MS3 has been highly regarded for its handling since day one (although I can safely say the 1st gen shocks were poor - I just had Koni FSDs put in and it's night and day).
Bilstein Shocks with Eibach springs and Ground Control Sleeves
Get a Tacoma, then throw some Bilsteins on it (if it doesn't already have them) and a set of Michelins tires. Will ride nice.
Instead of replacing it with factor components, I decided to remove the setup in its entirety and replace it with Bilstein Sport Shocks and B&G Sport Springs. The springs are progressive which keeps a very factory-like smoothness to the ride but allows for tighter handling.
i have the double bellow bags and koni oranges which tend to be a lot cheaper than the yellows becuase they do not have adjustable dampening. they give me plenty of height in the rear.
At 100,000km I did Koni STR.T shocks, Eibach springs and a Progress rear sway bar. It's a riot to drive with decent tires now however I'm not overly impressed with the Konis, they don't have the best small-bump feel but the car feels ridiculously planted 100% of the time and stays flat through corners.
I've put the Bilstien HDs on several Weekenders and think they are too soft IMO.
