I LOVE the 5100s on my '20 Z71. The Ranchos had almost zero damping. Going over speed bumps at my kids' school used to cause the truck to wallow around for a second or two before settling down. There's none of that now with the 5100s. It really does feel like a different truck. Very planted.

Pros: feels like different truck, very planted
Cons: Ranchos had zero damping
Vehicle: Chevrolet

OEM Mazda Shock absorbers

Our 2013 Mazda 3 has been BULLETPROOF reliable for 185k miles. Never been in the shop once for any reason. Other than normal disposables, I've replaced the shocks at 180k, both front wheel bearings at 150k, and a MAF sensor around 160k. All easy DIY jobs. Also did a serpentine belt/tensioner at 160k. Other than that, just fluids and tires/brakes.

Pros: BULLETPROOF reliable, easy DIY
Vehicle: Mazda 3
Mileage: 297728 km

Sachs Shock absorbers

  • Bottoming:

VW/Audi uses Sachs on some of the base models of their cars and SUVs. Those will be closer to original specifications, with longer service life and better performance than the KYBs.

Pros: longer service life

Had one, an 850 Turbo wagon. Even with fancy Koni FSD shocks added, the thing still rode like a garbage truck and spirited cornering was a myth.. and still I loved that damn wagon.

Pros: great 5 cylinder sound
Cons: rode like garbage truck
Vehicle: Volvo 850
