My last CRV lasted 17 years and 197,000 miles on basic maintenance alone - oil, tires, brakes, and a starter.
I too have a 87 wagon. However, my experience with Duralast starters was with my 2005 Subaru. Was recently in jam and needed quick replacement then. The duralast was essentially a remanufactured part and seemed ok quality. Has been almost two months since installation and no problems at all.
Denso starter in my Toyota 4runner lasts like 15 years / 150k+ miles before needing a rebuild and can take it out easily.
I have an 08 accord lx with a aftermarket starter and was getting misfires in 2 and 3 and the car would go into limp mode. I had to replace the starter with an OEM(mitsuba, I think it’s called?) from the dealership. Reinstalled everything and the codes went away after some time and now I have strong, fast cranks. Learned that with any vital part that goes bad in this car you should always put OEM and never go w aftermarket.
You could've just bought the oem brand from rock auto and installed it from a video on youtube :( I'm guessing it's a 2008-12? Would've just paid 214.84 plus shipping/tax just for buying the oem brand.
After every diagnostic I could think of I got a Duralast reman starter from Auzotone and the engine cranked right over first try so looks like a defective reman was the problem. Lesson learned that you can’t always trust bench testing to find issues.
It's going to (probably) end up being the starter. Honda put out a bulletin for this problem with the 2.4l in this generation. P0339 on start-up gets caused by either 1)aftermarket starter or 2)slowly failing OEM starter, cranking the engine in a funny rhythm that's makes the pcm think the crank pattern is bad.

If it's a cardone starter then that's your problem. They make all kinds of vehicle parts. Everything they make sucks.
Whoever remans the kia starters sucks big ol pecker. I've one put 3 aftermarket starters in a Sedona before replacing it with an oem.
