Otherwise, given the information you've shared, I think replacing the pump is a good idea.

It ended up being the water pump seal. They replaced the water pump and thermostat free of charge.
I actually just changed the pump on my 2018. With the pump/thermostat assembly, and a collection of specific tools, it cost me ~$900. I was quoted 2k by a dealer so I saved a good chunk of change. All-in-all the job is straightforward, save plenty of headache with disconnecting hoses and wire clips.
I would have gone with a motorcraft or gates water pump
I personally worked on a 2021 with 375,000km. It needed a water pump.
I replaced mine with a pierburg one. after install it was fine till I hit a decent bump, which led to overheating limp mode (i stopped the car as soon as this happened).
I had an 2001 740iL that I traded an old truck for. The electronics are kind of a nightmare, the water pump has a plastic impeller that likes to randomly explode and shoot plastic all through the cooling system. You can buy one with a metal impeller that solves this.
I'm currently driving a brand new Q5 while my car gets a new water pump. The dealership *apologized* for giving me that loaner Q5... lol. I honestly, really, truly hate it. It has a premium price, but sitting in it with all the plastic everywhere, does not feel premium.
I can\u2019t believe my Audi has a plastic water pump and that when it went it took the oil cooler with it. The damn thing died at 44k miles.
Gm has done this to me with a water pump. Nothing like factory, none of the markings, generic gm sticker. Part looks like the generic China versions on Amazon.
