Brake pads EBC or STOPTECH
I got rid of my ceramic set due to noise and squealing so just wanted to throw that in there to consider. I drive the car mostly on the weekends so surface rust, cold rotors and the dust build up were the main cause. After 5-10 minutes of driving no problems with noise - but it was annoying reversing out of the garage with high pitched squeal. I switched to StopTech Axle Pack - Street and those have been quiet and low dust without breaking the bank.
Brakes - EBC. Tried others either didn't like the feel or they didn't last long, or made a mess of the wheels (I do a lot of miles daily) so stick with those now.
The "fitment" issues to my understanding and personal experience are more for the rears and is an easy fix. EBC powdercoats the steal part of the pad and as a result, the part that slide into the caliper can be just a fraction of an inch too thick. All you have to do is get a piece of sandpaper or a razor blade and remove some of the coating. That's it. I love the Redstuff pads...they grip good and haven't squeaked on me yet. Also the rears lasted some stupid amount of time for me even with some sporty driving. I think it was like 90k or more.
upgrading the pads is one of the cheapest most impactful upgrades you can make to the brakes . I have HH EBC pads on my MT09 and they feel fine but if you’re already changing them and you know you’re gonna spend a lot of time on the track just get the trackday/race pads
I used the HH pads for several years on my GSXR600. Eventually I started cooking the HH pads as my pace came up. I would get some hot spotting on the rotors where the pad material was melting and leaving itself on the rotor unevenly. When this happens your rotors will need to be media blasted or replaced to get them smooth again. A lot of it depends on your style and pace, but for the peace of mind I would recommend going for the better pads. They have a very similar feel but the EPFA is a little more consistent with less fade.
If I have to stand on the brakes they certainly STOP better than the OEM brakes. It's a very good improvement in brake feel as well. The car stops straight now instead of wondering a bit side to side.
EBC Red. I put them on my GTI and liked the low dust but loved the feel of the brakes. I thought the stock pads came on quite strong, but didn't get that much stronger as I pushed harder on the pedal. The reds are very linear without any hint of initial grabbiness.
EBC red. You only need to do the fronts.
Its funny, my close bud actually runs stop-techs, they seem to be doing him fairly well Might consider stoptech's as well for the future. Until then, I'm just going to run these EBC's down a bit more so that I don't feel like its money down the drain
Went to a track day over the weekend to realize my EBC Yellow Stuff front brake pads were dangerously low - after only 1 previous track day 6 months ago and about 5000 highway miles between.
