They're a good brand. Used them on my '09 corolla and they did the job perfectly.
I have been using the power stop carbon fiber pads on my 2007 Lexus IS250. They have 60k miles on them, and still have 9mils of thickness. They literally look brand new. I love them, and theyre much less dusty than OEM.
Powerstop is perfectly fine. Every car I've owned in the last 10 years get powerstop when I need to replace pads and rotors.

I just swapped the pads for powerstops. It was around 170 for front and back. 20k miles later, still no vibrations.

The other thing to consider is if you(r dad) use the default stopping mode for brakes and never press brakes normally, the moment you actually need the brakes they might not be in the best shape because there's some accumulated residua on the disk and what not.
