I got this setup from ecs tuning a few months ago when I rolled over 113k miles. Im not closing in on 121k miles and its help up fine. Not to much clutch chatter, and actually I prefer the pedal feel over my mkV.

Pros: prefer the pedal feel
Cons: Not to much clutch chatter
Mileage: 113000 km

Sachs Clutch kit

I have a Sachs kit from mjmautohaus for $329. I have to wait and measure the bell housing to see if the 228mm kit will fit.

Pros: Sachs kit available
Cons: fitment uncertain

Here is a recent review from the MK4 Golf & Jetta Forum. It was using the 16.5 Steel Billet Flywheel (1.8T) and a stock 02M Sachs clutch kit. Pedal feels exactly as it did stock, and as it should since the Sachs kit is an OEM replacement. Engagement with the lightweight flywheel however is very crisp and responsive. The car itself actually runs and idles MUCH better with the 16lb flywheel and believe it or not, the chatter is very, VERY minimal. Any chatter is only audible from the outside of the car, if you listen carefully. To give you an idea of how feint it is, I've heard Miatas with louder valve noise, and Injectors louder than what I suspect is the actual chatter. All in all, the price is right, the performance is there and a great upgrade for everyone. Still very daily driveable and i'm very glad I dealt with James.

Pros: crisp and responsive engagement
Cons: minimal chatter

Sachs Clutch kit

A basic upgrade is a stock VR6 clutch which is slightly larger and a lightweight flywheel. The autotech set up is very popular right now and combines thier 10lb flywheel, the starter gear, and a Sach's VR6 clutch kit. This type of set up will hold a good amount of power.

Pros: good amount of power

The SACHS VR6 228mm clutch kits (one of our more popular sellers) are very stout and can take quite a beating, yet still retain a very factory OE feel. After all, they are the VR6 OE clutches! Even though these are the SACHS OE clutch kits, a lot of VR6 all-motor drag racers run this clutch kit. Rated at near 290 ft/lbs of torque, this clutch kit is one of best VR6 clutches available for stock, mildly modified, and non-force inducted MK3s.

Pros: stout, factory OE feel

Sachs Clutch kit

I've got a 2003 Jetta 1.8T GLS Manual (canadian model, made in mexico), and the clutch burnt out, was slipping and was trying to sell it to a family member, well they burnt the clutch out on the test drive and now I just want to get a stock replacement (so don't need a racing clutch, etc;)

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to car repair, I did my research, called around, the VW dealer tells me the "high cost" the local repair shops quote me something else, everyone has different parts, and part numbers.

If anyone could give me some feedback? I have 2 mechanics that told me if I buy the part, and save money they will install it. But I want to make sure I get the correct part.

Here are the following clutch kits that I've found:

*$379 Sachs W0133-1891446 Clutch Kit*

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Volkswagen/Jetta/Sachs/Clutch_Kit/2003/GLS/4_Cyl_1-dot-8L/W0133-1891446.html

(looks like it includes the flywheel + conversion components, other cheaper ones do not).

*$295 Valeo W0133-1889745 Clutch Kit*

http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Volkswagen/Jetta/Valeo/Clutch_Kit/2003/GLS/4_Cyl_1-dot-8L/W0133-1889745.html

(no flywheel kit, but a little cheaper)

The site 'matches' my VW when I put in the details, however I'm not sure what to look for here.

Thoughts? Would appreciate any feedback :)

Vehicle: Volkswagen Jetta
