Oil filter Wix or Motorcraft
Use an M56 filter, it's slightly larger. Been doing it for over 2 years. Over the counter Pennzoil Ultra Synethic 5w30 is fine, I use Redline 5w30, it's slightly thicker at temp. For a filter, you can't really go wrong with Wix, Mobil, or Fram Ultra. If you watch a tear down of any of these, they're all virtually the same. Fram are built in America and readily available, the Nissan filters are covered in glue and made like total crap in my opinion. But those three should be made in America. Lots of oil filter brands use Fram filters and slap their name on it, Wix too in Napa's case. If you change it every 3,000 miles you can basically use anything as long as it's a quality filter. Personally had nothing but good things to say about Wix and Mobil. Only annoying part about Fram Ultra is the stupid grip they put on them makes my filter wrench slip right off.. But I've used all three and had no complaints.
The $120 JiffyLube price is what got me doing my own changes….very therapeutic!
I enjoy it. Best GF-6A synthetic is 28$, best filter WIX is 10$, crush washer 25cents.
Disposal responsibly.
BTW the oil change places, use the worst filter and don’t change the crush washer…
CRV 250K miles. Burns no oil. Think it’s working ?
I use WIX 51036XP with synthetic oil on my 97 Tahoe since I own the truck (60.000 miles) and oil pressure is great.
I use Motorcaft synthetic oil and filter. It's what the manufacturer recommends. There are probably 50 other oils out there that are just fine for regular driving and the occasional burnout. I just tend to stick with what the people who designed the engine would recommend over what someone on the internet does, unless there is a clear reason not to. And if you disagree, you do you.
I prefer synthetic. Wix filter
I do it myself in the driveway for half of what the dealership quoted. Takes about 30 minutes, it's really easy on my powerstroke as the drain plug and filter are right next to each other.
Switch to a high quality oil filter to allow oil to flow quicker at startup. The rattle, if timing chain related, is likely one of the hydraulic tensioners not filling with oil as quickly as it should so you hear the chain rattle till it tightens. A higher quality filter will help. Wix would be my recommendation.
On my '21 XLE I use WIX 51394 oil filter which holds more oil and is slightly longer than OEM. I use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0W-20.
Right now I have Red Line 5w30 and a wix filter due to what I’ve read on forums
my car balloons WIX filters, and it only goes as high as 120psi..
