Shock absorbers KONI or Monroe
Looks fine, and acts like a shock. That shop just trying to scam you. Bump stops looking torn, but that's fine. Use them as long as possible, eventually upgrade to Koni Yellows if they make it for the Mini's.
Monroe OESpectrums have a great ride and are very affordable.
I switched to Koni special actives (red) and like them more than stock
People keep saying Bilstein, but I’d highly recommend Koni yellows. I’ve had Bilstein b6/b8 and they always get harsh over broken pavement. The Konis are much more smooth, less bouncy, just much nicer overall. They have knobs for rebound adjustment as well.
I finally bit the bullet this week and ordered a full set of Special Active shocks from KONI (who I believe licenses their Frequency Selective Damper technology to Tesla)
The result is way better than I expected!! I don’t regret it one bit! It basically ate up all the small bumps on the road. I regularly find myself going over 90mph on the highway without realizing because of how smooth it is!! And this is with the stock springs.
I have Koni stocks and H&R springs with a 20 mm lift (barely noticeable). I like the way the car became more stable and controlled on gravel and highways. However, springs are considerably stiffer, and with 1-2 passengers suspension feels a bit rigid, but just great when the car is fully loaded.
The originals are Monroes if I'm not mistaken. I've replaced them all round on the my F from Autodoc as well, with new ones same brand. Fairly cheap and easy to fit.
I had a shop recommended KYB, but I went for the cheaper Monroe brand on Amazon. I got it installed today and so far the ride is smooth.
I had Koni yellow with stock springs. Maybe a little better than the stock shocks but started leaking after a few years. Didn’t want to screw around with sending them back to Koni and waiting for their warranty.
Not a mechanic, but the general consensus I read from mechanics when doing mine is that Monroe can be garbage and stick with KYB.
