Tires MICHELIN or Laufenn
I have Michelin Crossclimate 2's in the winter. On those days, I don't have to worry about the tires running or wearing like shit. I could leave them on year round if I wanted, but they are a little squishy and squirrely. And, while full bore winters they are not, they're 3 peak rated and still pretty damn good. I could swear they don't wear at all either.
Laufenn is a budget brand of Hankook, a reputable tire manufacturer headquartered in South Korea. These are the tires I recently ordered for my Model Y. They're black, round, and also have a treadwear rating of 500.
I switched over to the Michelin Defender LTX on both vehicles after wearing through original tires and they too have been great in snow.
I have a 2023 Rogue and absolutely love it. I'm at 24k miles and the only issue I have has been with replacing the tires. The factory installed tires wore out fast. Replaced with Michellin Defender 2s and hope they'll hold up a very long time.
I have the Michelin cross climate tires now and they went through a mild winter fine. I did drive through a winter storm last year, slowly & made it to my final destination. I feel pretty good about driving through all weather.
Got the cross climate 3 sport on my v60 and it's a huge difference. Even tho I went from18/19" to 20" now the Michelins are way quieter then the original Continental tires.
After research I'm going for normal Michelin Cross climate 2. I'm in the mountains of mid Wales so snow isn't even guaranteed but it can be here for a few weeks. And there will be frost and ice. In the past (on my ICE cars) I have gone full winter tyres but I'm not sure the bother of changing them twice a year is worth it for me. And EV specific definitely isn't worth the extra.
I'm open to other suggestions though.
Tires make a night and day difference, especially in EV’s where you have more torque. I went with cross climates, and took a 5 percent hit on range, but the traction it gives during rain is worth imo.
I got the defenders for the 21" wheels 4k miles ago. I am currently at 2.31 mi/kWh and climbing. Pretty similar to the original Pirelli tires.
PS4S gets slimy and the car will get loose 5 minutes into a track session or on hot autox days.
