  • Ride comfort:

More sidewall rubber gives a softer ride and absorbs winter roughness better, so a good idea. I went 29 inch 235/60R18 x-Ice for even more rubber and they are great.

Pros: softer ride, absorbs winter roughness

Once I put Pilot Sports onto my V40 that thing just came alive. It didn't have crazy power obviously but you could use all of it, all the time and I kept up with or outran much quicker BMWs, Mercs and VWs because it could handle corners (especially once I got the hang of heel-toeing).

Pros: car came alive, handled corners
Vehicle: Volvo V40

Been on the Defender m/s2 for 26,300mi. Still at 44mph average speed. 2.25mi/kwh. They have better steering response and overall grip than A/T which anyone would expect, quieter but not silent, lacking in the looks department, wearing better than Pirellis but faster than the Michelin treadlife prediction. Tire noise has not gotten worse as they age, possibly quieter but I deal with a lot of wind noise so not sure.

Pros: better steering response, good grip, quieter, better wear
Cons: not silent, lacking looks, faster wear
Mileage: 26300 km

Neighbor has Laufenn X Fit and I have G Fit and we're totally pleased with this Hankook sub brand in middle TN. Really quiet tires as Hankooks tend to be. Mostly excellent reviews on tire rack but a few folks claimed they were horrific in wet. So I went out on soaked roads and a parking lot and tested them and it took really heroic maneuvers that I never do to get as much as a chirp.

Pros: quiet tires, excellent reviews
Cons: horrific in wet (claimed)
Vehicle: Honda Fit

MICHELIN Tires

I just bought winter tires and went for the Michelin X-Ice snow tires. We'll see how they work out once the snowy weather gets here, but they've been well reviewed.

Pros: well reviewed

Has great luck with the Michelin x-ice. They last forever, and they offer good ice grip even though they have no studs.

Pros: good ice grip, last forever

MICHELIN Tires

Picked up a new set of Cross Climate 2’s over the weekend. Handling is great, especially in the rain. Aesthetically, I think they look super cool and unique. They have an aggressive look to them.

That being said, I did not do my due diligence beforehand and let the guy at discount t*re give me the run down on them. One thing he failed to mention was the lack of efficiency they bring (not blaming him). In my first couple of drives I noticed my wh/mi to be well over 300 and in one instance on a 5 mile drive it was 395 wh/mi. Crazy! This is in comparison to my average of 252 wh/mi for the last 5k miles I’ve driven. It’s important to note that I like to accelerate fast and have had the heat on due to the cold weather coming in (Chicago native).

I wanted to see how much of a difference it made if I changed my driving habits so for the past 15 miles or so. I turned “chill” mode on and turned off the AC system and have averaged around 210 wh/mi. Nice to know that efficiency is still attainable just a bit sad that I will be losing 30%+ of range when driving how I normally do.

Hoping that with time they will break in and I will see that number go down a bit. I will update the thread as I put more miles on them.

Pros: great handling, aggressive look
Cons: reduced efficiency, range loss
