Tires NITTO or Continental
When it's time to replace my all seasons, I will likely be going with Nokian WRG. I had older generation Conti DWS on my gti and while they were great, the snow traction was only on the first 10k miles of tread. I hear the current Continental DWS 06 are better.
No complaints from the lo pro Continentals so far.
I live in Vancouver as well, and went up to Whistler/Squamish/Cypress in the snow last winter with my R equipped with my "winter" setup of Conti DWS 06 and it was more than fine. She handled it like a champ.
The continental tires ride real quite for their size.
So I have 2800km on mine, mixed city and highway. I have just under 9/32 on the front and just over 9/32 in the rear. These again are the continental 5P new they have 10/32.
my Contipros are great at 34 psi
Mine came with ContiProContact rubber. I ran them at 34-35 psi instead of 37, on a stock suspension. A quiet, and compliant tire. Good for general street use and on the highway. They also worked well in the snow, to my surprise.
I've run my MK7 GTI with stock ContinentalProContact all-seasons (came with the car) on the stock Austins; and then with wider wheels and 235/40/18 PSS. Huge difference in wheel spin for the same throttle setting/gear.
They did fine, not a great performing tire but for the price they aren't bad at all.
My biggest gripe was that you can't tell how much life it has left in the rear, since it had a smooth center. I just noticed mine showed cords one day.
the Contis (ContiProContact NON Eco Plus) that came stock on my '14 Jetta were utter crap. Couldn't balance them despite multiple shops and Road Force, etc. Replaced with el cheapo Hankooks and it was like a new car, smooth as silk.
