AISIN Water pump

The OEM water pump is indeed prone to failure after 100k miles and is easy to replace. It will absolutely cause the death rattle.

Pros: easy to replace
Cons: prone to failure
Mileage: 160934 km

AISIN Water pump

AISIN WPT-190 is $143 on Amazon. Directly comparing it with one from bought from dealer. Aside from the box, they look identical with the same plastic wrap.

Pros: looks identical to dealer
Part number: WPT-190

I have a Tiguan 2015. I tend to get a waterpump problem. At first, I've tried to fix it at another workshop. Cost me $700+ with only 3 months warranty and in less than a year, the waterpump broke again. Tried fixing at the agent, they gave me $800+ with 1 year warranty and I was also able to claim it after 1 year & 2 months.

Pros: able to claim warranty
Cons: waterpump problem

  • Overheating:

I am now at about 55k and the water pump failed on it causing it to overheat. I learned that the 2015 gen 3 TDIs have a variable water pump that fails quite often causing overheating - just a matter of time.

Cons: water pump failed, overheating
Vehicle: Volkswagen Passat
Mileage: 55000 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

The water pump on our 2019 GTI fully failed a couple of months ago (turns out what I've been smelling since we got the car new was likely a very slow drip of coolant leaking). Well within warranty, well under the mileage.

Cons: fully failed, slow coolant leak
Vehicle: Volkswagen
