Water pump OEM Audi or OEM Toyota
I've also got a bad water pump.
I wasnt planning on changing mine either when i bought my Audi TT and it had 61k miles on it and was just going to change belt and then at 100k the pump+belt.. when i took the pump off to see if it was plastic impeller style the impeller wasnt even attached to the pump.. it was just free spinning on the shaft.. i to this day have no clue how the car never overheated before that day.. cause i drove the car 2600 miles in 9 days prior to doing the timing belt. ill dig up the link but i posted a link on here of a movie how i could flick the impeller and it spun like 6 revolutions on the shaft without the actual shaft moving...
the aux water pump is leaking you can do it without taking the intake manifold off thru the driver side rear if the engine shouldnt cost you more than 200 when your all done
That looks like the water pump but I can be wrong. Also, there is no dipstick for the transmission anymore. Depending on the engine, there is a drain bolt on the side of the transmission on the driver side I believe near the drivetrain.
How many miles do you have? Its probably time to change the water pump if it's making noise and if it is, it needs to be replaced before it causes a whole world of hurt to your wallet.
At 52k miles, it appears the water pump went out on our 2015 Audi A3 1.8 T FSI. It has been drinking coolant the last few months and leaving the garage smelling like anti-freeze... the coolant leak is visible beneath the airbox/battery area.
Just be aware that B9’s are subject to water pump failures which can lead to the engine overheating. For months (Since March) I’ve noticed a “Whistling noise” coming from the engine bay while driving. Took it in to get it looked at (non Audi dealer) and was told it was normal. Drove it and drove until one day the car told me I had no coolant… that’s odd. Go buy coolant and keep driving. Now the car overheats and spits out all the coolant. Now it’s making sense. Either a combination of bad TStat sensor & water pump or just bad water pump. The fact that it never told me the coolant was hot the first time is spit out all the coolant leads me to believe both components are bad.
Had mine replaced last month before it broke again. The component that failed was the gasket for me then the pump failed and wanted money.
Had the dealer do the water pump on my 09 A6 3.0t and it was like $1800 for that alone.
Waterpump and thermostat are common issue with Audi. I had a 2017 S3 and had it replaced around 65K miles, and now my 2019 S5 was replaced under warranty at approx 38/39k miles. The mechanic mentioned something along the lines, its made out of plastic.
My water pump and thermostat just went out on my ‘18 Allroad and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they were both under an extended warranty even though my car’s general warranty had expired last year.
