Akebono Brake pads

I hated the way my 2019 Highlander braked, no vibrations, just inconsistent and not like any other vehicle I've ever driven. I put Akinobo brake pads on the front and it completely transformed my brakes. Now it brakes normally.

Pros: Normal braking, improved consistency
Cons: Inconsistent braking
Vehicle: Toyota Highlander

POWER STOP Brake pads
ackerbone
Rating 5.0
  • Braking:

I recently (about 5K miles ago) did Powerstops and absolutely love them. I’ve done many brakes on many of my Toyota/Lexus SUVs and most of the time have had best luck with OEM, but the OEM on my Sequoia not so much (warping/pulsing). With much research found the Powerstop drilled and slotted are great for these large beasts…and indeed they are!

Pros: love them, great
Mileage: 5000 km

Bilstein Shock absorbers
Bumpin_Brutus
Rating 5.0
  • Body bounce:
  • Bottoming:

For the really nice ride part, I got the Bilstein 5160 shocks. Install was a bit goofy, but manageable. They really make a huge difference compared to the rough country shocks I had on there. I fly into bumpy areas just to feel how nicely they dampen.

Pros: huge difference, nicely dampen
Cons: goofy install
Vehicle: Toyota FJ Cruiser

Nokia Tires

Rating 5.0
  • Grip:
  • Ride comfort:

I see extremely harsh winter conditions and run Sparco Terra 16x7 +35 (bronze) with 205/60r16 Nokian Hakkapeliitta 10 Studded on lifted 2023 BRZ 6MT. Wanted as much sidewall as possible for the types of roads I drive.

Pros: much sidewall

Bilstein Shock absorbers
MaxwelllD
Rating 5.0
  • Body bounce:
  • Bottoming:

I've been really happy with my Bilstein 5100 shocks and OME heavy load springs with all of my added armor weight. After I picked up a trackbar correction kit and got my geometry right the rig rides better than any new truck!

Pros: rides better than new
Vehicle: Toyota FJ Cruiser

MICHELIN Tires

I bought enkei 17s and Michelin x ice for winter. It was a lot easier to get tires and also doubles as a good rim for cheap track tires also if you want as 215 17s are pretty common

Pros: easier to get tires
Cons: none
Vehicle: Toyota

DUNLOP Tires

With its original Dunlop Enasaves our Gen. 4 Prius consistently indicated \~ 62-63mpg in mixed driving. At \~ 42,000mi. the Dunlops were replaced with Michelin Defenders, the mileage immediately dropped over 18% which persisted for nearly 1000mi.

Pros: good mileage
Cons: mileage dropped
Mileage: 67592 km

Denso Engine radiator

The MVP radiator and the Denso aftermarket are identical, both say Denso. The main difference between the OEM and the MVP/Denso is the OEM is 2 Core with a radiator thickness of 1.075 inches thick. The Denso is 1 Core with a radiator thickness of 0.663 inches thick. I measured the thickness using a digital caliper. Another difference is the transmission connection lines, the MVP/Denso looks like a cheaper aluminum, and the OEM is a heftier non aluminum metal. As a side note, after searching the internet and YouTube, some people have leaks at the radiator line after a couple of years with the Denso aftermarket ones. Next time I will be sticking with the OEM model, I just don’t have time to return the Denso and order another OEM one.

Cons: 1 core, thinner
Vehicle: Toyota Highlander

Fram Oil filter

I just want a metal body for the spin-on filters in case they’re put on too tight. I’m not a mechanic, but have tore the shit out of a Fram oil filter trying to remove it. The Mobile 1 filters work well on my Camry.

Cons: hard to remove
