I went to Brisk ER12S a few weeks after going 1+ tune which are one heat range colder, same fitment as MK7.
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
replaced tires due to age, cracks with Continental ContiProContact - no more squeaks, nice grip
Local VW dealer did the belt, pump, rollers, tensioners with OEM parts and it cost $1700 bucks.
Walmart carries jugs of Castrol Edge SPT 0w40 A3/B4 for much less than quarts at AutoZone
Run it in my R, wife's GTI, and even ran it in a WRX I used to have. It's good oil, the analyses I've sent in over the years don't lie!
My Mk7 GTI has a plastic pan and everyone lost their minds when VW did that from the metal pans on the Mk6. That said, I haven't heard any issues with them and the people who HAVE broken them on track and hitting crap in the road would've demolished the same metal pan anyway. Over 120k miles on mine and almost 9 years with the car and it hasn't kept me up at night, so I can't imagine it's that big a deal. Plus, living in the salt belt (northeast PA) it's just one less thing to rust out.
Hawk HPS Brake Pads (MK6 Golf GTI) $50 * NIB Hawk HPS Brake Pads Hawk 'Performance Street' Brake Pads: *High Performance Street 5.0 ('B' Compound Code)*The new High Performance Street 5.0 Pads are a Ferro-Carbon compound brake pads that provide advanced braking characteristics to enhance the driving experience.
I would recommend only OE VW or Mann filters with a VW 502 oil, preferably 5W40.
Still getting the runaround on trying to find a replacement. In my experience, the VW's windshields tend to chip & crack so easily. the aftermarket lasts so much longer.
The factory Bridgestone Ecopia tires were trash. They were useless in any wet conditions at 30k miles. It’s rocking some Generals now.
My 2013 GTI I believe has been running off of 5w-40 since I bought it. Supplied a shop with European 5w-40 and it still ran fine. Now it's winter, 6-12F outside and I just got the oil changed at a local drive and shine to 5W30 full synthetic and the GTI is running like garbage! RPMs are staggering all over when it goes into neutral, instead of 750RPMS it likes 1k to be normal. It just overall feels wrong.
