I bought a VR6 4Motion wagon for my mom 4 years ago, and it's still running great. The brakes are a bit overboosted, and are very grabby, but once you get used to it, it's actually not bad at all.
I've owned my late 2007 build since new and it now has 80,000 on the clock (2.0T FSI). Only major problem was that the A/C compressor went at about 40k, but was replaced for free under warranty.
We have had our 2008 for a year and a half. It is a Komfort with 6spd manual and 2.0T. Bought it with 42k on it, currently has about 80k. Problems we have had so far are intake manifold, fuel injector cleaning, and waterpump. Overall we have been really happy with the car.
INSIST on a VW bumper...none of that "will fit" crap!
Clutch- flywheel from a corrado g60 or Passat 16v -disc and pressure plate from above mentioned or corrado vr or passat vr or mk3 vr You cannot use a vr flywheel because it has 10 bolt holes vs 6 bolt hole to mount it to the crank Unless you are making big power just get an oem type clutch.
I got the light this morning on the wife's JSW. So I checked out the situation. Sure enough seriously low coolant, like well below minimum fill line. Only 7000 miles. Took it to the dealership to have it topped off.
Uh oh, an antifreeze odor coming from under the dash is usually a heater core leak.
Anyway, I bought a new battery and everything was fine for several months. Yesterday my car did not start again. I put a charger on the battery and it started this morning. However, this afternoon it would not start again. I charged it again and went and had the charging system and battery checked out (all good).
Car towed to different out of town VW dealer, who say the "Front Haldex/Transfer case" failed internally, replacing under extended warranty with sealed unit shipping from Germany.
I've a 2012 GTI with just over 9K miles on it that had a water pump leak on me yesterday. Took to dealer and got it back this afternoon. I live 2 miles from the dealer and drove home no problem. On the way to my parents 40th wedding anniversary dinner this evening no more than another 2 miles after I left home it had another major leak happen. The coolant reservoir had completely cracked and I had coolant all over my engine compartment.
