Irregardless of what route you go, just make sure your water pump has a metal impeller and not a plastic one. The plastic one (factory on many VW) chips off and degrades over time causing all kinds of cooling issues.

You can actually buy the parts from the VW dealer for about $300; that's a kit with the belt, tensioner, and roller, plus a water pump and thermostat added separately. I've always had good luck with original parts, so that's what I've used.
So, I replaced the extremely worn voltage regulator and voltage picked up to 14.2 ish. Still wanted more so I replaced the battery cables, alternator to starter cable, and main grounds. Voltage now reads around 14.35 and peaks at 14.5. Surely the alternator cannot be the problem.
Now on a separate note I decided to put a Golf R intercooler in the car this weekend.
I just went R32 LCA and knuckles. Flipped the tie rod and no issues or cutting bending etc..
I owned a 2006 VW Jetta S. The first night, I happened to use my left side turn signal to park at the curb next to my house. When I got out of the car, I noticed my whole left side lights were on!
I had been hearing a hitch-pitched noise from my engine that almost sounded like a vacuum cleaner about 5-10 minutes after engine start up. Took the car into the dealer to find that it was a water pump failure (as I kind of knew from poking around here). It looks like this is a fairly common issue for 2012's unfortunately, but just a heads up for people as this didn't trigger a CEL or anything.
I got the upper radiator hose from a vendor on ebay mkautohaus, I believe. Deals in older VW parts, that one was $110, called the dealership and they wanted $145. And the shop the car is in charged me another $110 for the lower one.
i had to custom make my tie rods, use mk4 outer tie rods because they are about 1" longer per side which should do it, i would just stick with yours and loop your lines or buy this kit, ive done it both ways with the same results, ****ty steering
My water pump just needed replacement as well. I didn't have any visible or audible signs besides the low coolant level alert. The dealer said that this has been a fairly common issue but there is still no recall.
