But to the guy who said OEM wipers aren't as good? Well, you're wrong. I've only had to put 3 total sets of wipers on this car in almost 5 years. They work through snow and ice and heavy rain. They are just good wipers and even cheaper than the fancy ones at Walmart.

I put larger diameter front rotors, dual piston calipers, caliper bracket, better pads and the properly re-sized master cylinder on an Impreza and had much better dry stopping with no ABS problems.
I use the black OEM filter and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. The platinum and the Ultra Plat is the same formula now I’m pretty sure. I’d stick to the OEM filter too. It’s what my tuner recommends and I wouldn’t go against what he says unless it’s literally written in the stars
My 2002 had a similar issue. In my case it was the spark plugs, $250 fix.
I've had my clutch kit replaced under warranty once already because of this noise, and the noise is back. After extensive research I truly believe it is not the TOB.
my local Subaru dealership listed my brake pads as needing replacement soon when they were literally brand new. That was because their system simply saw that I had 40,000 miles and had no record of the replacement. Nobody had actually examined my car to see if it needed brake pads.
Unfortunately subaru only realized that the late 90s Subarus had an unreliable gasket material. They started switching to multi-layered metal gaskets around 99-ish. This is a really common issues with the NA 2.5.
Head gasket, typical Subaru issue.
I went through two in my 06 Impreza across 326,000km ....
Auto oem trans will fail. Only major pitfall in terms of long term reliability.
