I ordered Centric blanks and powerstop z23 pads off of Rockauto after doing a lot of research. Have had them on my 2016 GTI for 6 months or so. No regrets, they're great. AND super cheap.
Owner reviews for brake pads
Same issue here with 2020 (standard brakes). Was driving my wife absolutely bananas. Swapped out two weeks ago with Power Stop Z23 Ceramic/Carbon pads… zero noise, good performance after they were bedded in and virtually NO DUST.
I've had them for 30k km and they're great. Perfect for spirited driving / autocross and I've only ever had brake dust squeal once and for a very short time.
I recall Honda uses Akebono as the maker for their OEM brake pads and from my experience with multiple Honda cars, the brake pads work well.
My EBC reds say to use pads easy for 200 miles. Then do 4-5 hard stops from 50 mph
Others like EBC have specific procedures for heating and cooling the brakes to make them to the surface.
I am easy on brakes. I coast to stops and don't speed either. I have a 2009 Fit. I swapped the front pads and rotors at 120,000 miles just because. They totally did not need to be swapped. I have since put 97,000 miles on the replacement pads and rotors. The ceramic pads I installed have plenty of life left. The rotors are near the end, but still work.
Rotors were getting rusted decided to have them replaced with R1 Concepts Brake pads and Drilled/Slotted rotors. They perform a little better than the OEM with a quicker breaking point.
I’ve got ebc red stuff pads on my non performance GTI and they are ok. I probably will get something different next time around. They do dust a bit, probably the same as oem.
The brakes made of wet cardboard is the only disappointment I have with my 2020 XC90.
