I just run the usual small inline deals, Wix or Beck/Arnley filters.
Owner reviews for fuel filter
Empi filter just below the gas tank with glass housing and permanent cleable filter element. A little harder to clean / change but no chance of engine bay fire.
i believe it's got the same specs as donaldson and it's a cinch to find. for micron size, it’s about 4 microns – perfect for 6.7 PSD.
For my TDI it's literally just a standard oil change, and then fuel filter every 20k miles. Hardly an additional burden.
The responses inspired me to replace my fuel filter. I went for a drive and it seems like the engine sounds much smoother.

Just recently replaced the fuel filter on my Toyota pickup and damn. Didn’t think I was gonna feel much of a difference but now the truck feels like it has more acceleration. I definitely felt it on the highway.
all pumps are Carter brand and the fuel filter is Mahle.
I never had anything suspicious looking in any of my fuel filter changes on our 2012 JSW... always looked perfectly clean. HPFP failed without warning at 91k.
The same day I replaced the fuel filter. Issue was still there.
