I poured in the whole bottle when changing fuel filters recently, and the engine seemed to run quieter with better fuel efficiency right afterward.
VDO is OE and can be got for €120~. Get a fuel filter for €15 from Bosch, part of your maintenance anyway.
You should just buy the Mahle or Mann filter (in that order) and replace the whole thing. Your vacuum line running to it could also be leaking.
Take out the fuel pump assembly again, replace your filter (Mahle KL145) while you're there, and recheck all connections.
Duralast Fuel Filter part number FF747DL. Cost is 8 dollars from your local auto zone. I put this one on my 90 NA about 900 miles ago and have no problems at all.
Replaced the fuel filter and BAM the acceleration is there. It absolutely roars when I go pedal to the floor now, at lest out of the rear tank that I put 91 octane pure gas into.
I have same car, fuel filter is a must but you must use a genuine honda filter or you will have problems with hesitation/excessive smoke etc.
Recently, (about 2 weeks ago) I did a new fuel filter, new spark plugs, new plug wires, new distributor rotor and cap.
I had a spare, new Bosch fuel filter, so I went ahead and swapped that in just in case the other new filter had issues.
Replaced mine on my 98 cavalier last winter with about 150k on it. Reason was car wouldnt start. Couldn't even blow air through it
