Engine oil RED LINE or OEM Volkswagen
Once the oil temp reads the temp number, you're all set to do what you please.
Completed my first oil change at 5k miles with Redline 0w20 and a Mann filter.
I had Blackstone do a Virgin Oil Analysis of Red Line 5w30 This sample of Red Line 5W/30 looks good in testing. The viscosity is just a little above our \"should-be\" range for unused 5W/30, but that's common to see with some brands, and it doesn't show any sort of problem or deficiency with this oil. The additive package is typical of Red Line. They use a lot of molybdenum anti-wear additive. There's also some silicon, which is good to know about since silicon can also show dirt in used oil samples. It's an anti-foaming additive. No moisture or solids were found. This oil is in serviceable condition.
I've run Redline in several previous vehicles.
I run Redline 5w-40. I do not use the 'Euro' formula version, but the regular 5w-40 meets the VAG oil specs for a (2012) TT-RS. I used to run Mobile 1 0w-40, but I believe that Redline, Amsoil, Motul, and a few others are a higher quality oil (ex: Ester base stocks for Redline and Motul 300v).
Hi Vr6oom, I have a 2015 S3 with 10.3k miles and also trying to reduce IVD and oil consumption as much as possible. After a bunch of research that I have done to find the lowest possible noack, saps for 5w40, which is the viscosity recommended. I have settled for redline 5w40 euro series, just got my UOA back from Blackstone after 5k miles and everything is looking fine for extended oil use. So far little to no oil consumption
The only one that I found that met my standards was redline 5w40 euro series. I have just got my uoa from blackstone and everything looks fine, so for 5k miles on it and no oil has be added.
I've changed my TDI's oil every 10K miles since it was new. It currently has 330K miles on it and runs like a watch.
I've been using these docs for a while now, and am incredibly grateful for you sharing them. With that said, I just noticed something that's news to me. Both the \"Revised Oil Capacity Job Aid\" and the 2012 vs 2013 fluid capacity charts show a 1 qt decrease in engine oil capacity between 2012 and 2013 MY. I've always heard there were insignificant, minor changes between the model years. I've been putting 5ish into my 2012 and it's always been full according to the dipstick.
I tried the redline 5w30 previously which has very high levels of moly (>800ppm) and the results were not as good as the moly-less 5w40.
