FYI I went with the Bosch 96R. It weights about 34 lbs and fits no problem although I did need to add a small wedge on top of the bottom lip to lock it down with the stock mount. It has a 3 year free replacement warranty and cost me just about $87 OTD @ PepBoys after turning in my $15 core. It's been more than a year and the battery has been rock solid with very little use.
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
i did audi ttrs brakes up front. 370mm rotors with brembo 4 piston calipers. about $1100 all in if I remember correctly. that includes ss lines and pads
Definitely upgrade from stock pads as that will give you the most improvement. Just this morning I was looking to see if Carbotech (absolutely love their pads) made anything for the GTI, but they only have pads for the PP GTI. I sent them an email to see if they have their 1521 pads available for a non-PP GTI. Since Carbotech is not an option at the moment there is EBC green or red stuff. You would probably be just fine with EBC Green Stuff. ECS sells it and I just checked and fronts are on sale for only $57 for a set. Hawk is another good brand but I can't seem to find anything from them for our cars yet. Unfortunately there are not many choices out there at the moment for upgraded pads.
I have Koni red's in my MK4 at stock ride height, I think the ride is nice just a bit firmer then stock sport suspension.
buy the helix oem-ish lights from ecs. i got them and put a hid kit in them and they work great. they look oem but without the orange marker lights on the sides. your gonna get a bulb out warning no matter what you choose but from what i have read and heard the helix projector led housings work and look a lot nicer than the winpower ones. i havent seen them in person, but ive heard the winpower ones led's are kinda dim. the helix ones are just as bright as oem. ive put them side by side with a friends gli with oem bixenons and they pretty much match besides the marker lights. i couldnt be happier with them. install is easy too.
Pilkington makes a good product, too...it matches the acoustic and heat-blocking characteristics of the OEM. No optical distortions and decent chip resistance.
The EBC Red pads are one of the best set that they make, are quiet, and stop great.
The OEM is great, if you can afford it or your insurance company will pay for it. There is a bit of Sekurit product out there...You can be comfortable with Sekurit, as they are one of VW OEM suppliers.
ok so replaced the fuel filter, the fuel that came out the "dirty" side of the filter was black and had small particles in it
Put the correct spark plugs in there (NGK BKUR6ET-10 for AEG), throw those Bosch +4 turds in the bin where they belong.
