Alright, I appreciate everyone's feedback. I checked out RockAuto, and they have good deals... BUT, the shipping kind of kills it. (I put together pads/rotors, and the shipping was nearly $100 with each part coming from a different warehouse.). Somebody told me to get EBC Redstuff pads, which I hear is good. I checked Amazon but couldn't find any that fit my car (BUT I hear their 'Does this fit my car' tool doesn't work well.). Another site said that EBC DP32075C fit's the Jetta S.... But it also says 'With bosch calibers'. Is their an easy way to tell if mine came with Bosch Calibers (Or were they even an option on Jettas?)? Sorry for all the questions... And thanks again for all the help. I never realized how hard it would be to find decent brakes for a newer car.
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
As for tires, I went with the Yokohama YK580s sold only at Discount Tire and have been pleased. Put them on the van and the Passat and very happy with the results. Similar specs to Michelin Primacy tires, but better cost.
I use 5w-40 Castrol Syntech oil in my 2010 3.6 CC. I believe that if you are going to keep the car for a long time( over 100k miles) then I would use the thicker oil for better lubrication and wear protection. Owners in warmer areas like myself should use the 5w-40 due to the higher summer temperatures which will break-down the 5w-30 oil faster than the 5w-40 oil especially after a 10k oil change period.
I used 5w40 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in my 08 Passat. Had such great results, I carried it over to my 12 R Line.
New reman'd steering rack from German auto parts installed Saturday, took about 7 hours...Pump is silent, steers nice, doesn't rattle on center, doesn't grab the wheel out of your hands anymore.
Apparently my flywheel crapped out. The tech said it has excessive play. The clutch pedal is a little stiffer, which is probably a good thing.
Unitronic stage 1+ chipped, k&n drop in, k&w lowered, wearing bbs rf301's, custom stainless catback line with two magnaflow mufflers. everything else is stock.
In my last four VWs I've run the Amsoil 5w40 Euro Spec oil and think it is good stuff. My 1.8t engines in my old Passats ran really quiet with this oil. I changed the oil in my GTi at 2500 miles and switched to the Amsoil and have had no complaints. I'd recommend Amsoil.
I'll throw a lower temp thermostat see if I can get her temp to stay low as possible for now
