My B5 Passat was essentially the same car as a FWD A4. Had lots of trials and tribulations with that vehicle, but when I sold it with 110,000 miles, it looked and drove like new. I think I had a good example, but the only thing "major" I had go wrong was the control arm clunk, so I replaced all of those.
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
I have the FSDs on my Passat and love them. Gives much better turn-in (and a more neutral and composed behavior in curves) - something the TDI lacks because the front springs and sway bar are much more modest than in the GTI.
-fuel filter -fuel lines (ss braided are great)
I forgot to mention that the Corrado has had the oil and filter changed within the last 300 miles, the brake pads have plenty of pad life, and the tires are in decent shape.
These were my all around favorite tire as well, and I had them on my B5 Passat back from '03-05. Best tires I've driven on yet. Only other tire that compared to the grip was a set of Bridgeston Re040's on my '06 GLI and my mother's '04 BMW 530i.
Replaced the rear Brake Pads and Rotors on my 2005 V8 this morning. Turned out to be a pretty easy, straight forward job. 30-45 min. per side.
My 2001.5 GLS V6 5-speed needs new rotors and pads. I purchased 4 Meyle rotors (fronts and rears) and Mintex pads.
i had my left side battery replaced about a year ago and i watched the shop (not a dealer) do it. the starter battery was not disconnected, the hardest part seemed to be lifting the battery out (fits tightley in there and isn't feather light).
I have had both on my jetta. IMO the 60-1 is not nearly as good of a daily driver as the t3/t4e. The 60-1 took longer to spool but when it hit, it reallly hit. the t3/t4e had a more smooth power band but still had a strong "hit" once fully spooled. You will get more power on the dyno sheet with the 60-1 but you will see more power that you can use on the 60 trim.
The Factory 18" tire is the Pirelli P6, not rated so well either but not anything as bad as those Goodyears.
