Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
I have used Amsoil's 5w-50 on my mk4 GTI 1.8T and my Passat from their first oil changes until now. I love the oil and use it exclusively.
-Front Cross member (motor mount half): passat vr -Front Cross member (radiator half): mk2 modified - cut around 1/2 off of mid section on pass side -K-Frame: mk3 vr6 -A-Arms: mk3 vr6 -Struts/Springs: mk2 lowering springs
I was recently obsessed with oil in my 01 1.8T. I was at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com alot and determined that Valvoline Synpower 5w40 was the way to go based on oil analysis and availability. Castrol Syntec 5w40 appeared to degrade faster and the viscosity wasn't near as good as the Sypower after only 3k miles on it. IMHO Synpower outperforms Syntec in our motors based on actual facts and numbers from the oil analysis.
about 35 mpg freeway & about 27 city/freeway daily driver '89 Jetta 4 door 1.8L originally (bored .020 over) on digi2 with a K&N air filter I'm running nothing but 91-92 octane chevron/shell gasoline.
I too decided on the Bilstein HD shocks front and rear. They are definitely better than the worn out stock shocks. The MV is flatter now in the corners, and dips in the road are not followed by the "dolphin dance".
Been running 300V in all my cars including my GTI Best oil ever IMHO You'll notice a power difference when you switch form Castrol to 300V
OEM W8 shocks (yes, they work, and have for at least 50k so far and not blown )
i have PSS10. it is either too soft, or too harsh... i settled at F4/R2... i also have H&R f+rsb both at soft tho...
One lesson I learned when buying oil filters for the VR6 is to NOT buy a Bosch filter. Why? They are about $10 more, and when you pull it out of that pretty little Bosch box and look at the filter, it's a Hengst.
