VW oil pump is an excellent design. Starving the pump of oil is the main way to kill it.
Reviews of spare parts for Volkswagen
I pulled my chipped K03 at 50K miles and looked at it, along with the oil lines, and everything was perfect. Not one sign of coking. This was after using Mobil 1 from 10K to 50K.
final and best upgrade you can do to any vw 1.8 engine (rabbits, cabriolets etc) is upgrade to an 2.0 oil pump (just ask for an 95 vw jetta or golf 2.0 oil pump) it bolts right on is about $60 from any autoparts increases oil pumping volume dramatically and will keep your engine alive for years to come.
15w/50 mobil1 or 20w/50 anything else. fixed me right up.
what i would suggest that you do is go and get a better oil filter bosch etc. and change your oil to a heavier grade that is what i did in my 92 cab
yeah, you have to whip on an oil filter with an anti backflow valve. fram and mobil1 dont have them the dealer part is the best, imho, but bosch will stop the light also.
replace the fram oil filter with a bosch or mann and it will go off
Regarding genuine VW antifreeze and generic...from what I understand, anitfreeze like Prestone is phosphate free but the real VW antifreeze (Pentosin) also has protectants for the plastic parts of the system, etc. The genuine stuff really isn't that expensive from the dealer.
That's the only slightly ghetto part of the setup -- the ballasts that came with the lights were neither the ones that fit in wheel well nor the ones that fit on the headlights themselves -- they're just kinda big blocks with cables on them. So I just kinda stuffed them in the engine compartment where there was room -- right next to the battery on the left side, and near the wiper fluid reservoir on the right side. They actually fit quite well and snugly, so they won't move around while driving, etc. But if I were showing the car (i.e. needed to make the engine bay look clean and neat and all) I'd have to figure something else out. Luckily I'm not...
Yeah Mintex suck. I'm almost finished with mine.
