Denso Spark plug

I'd opt for a set of 1 step colder plugs. Ideally non projected tip like [Denso 5749](https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vw-spark-plug-denso-5749) or [NGK 4905](https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/vw-spark-plug-ngk-r74388). Though these are costly.

Pros: non projected tip
Cons: can be costly
Mileage: 15000 km
Part number: 5749

WEBER Carburetor

Rating 5.0
  • Starting:

I would 100% go 1.8, I have had 4 mk2’s with 1.8 and I got all of them running easy. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going with the carb’Ed version. As all four of the 1.8 cars I have had major issues with the k-jet-tonic/cis-e system and the parts are nearly impossible to find, at least here in the states. And if you do find them they cost more than the engine. I run dual Weber 40 carbs which are worth the initial cost investment.

Pros: easy to get running
Cons: parts nearly impossible to find
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf

Bosch Alternator

Car needed an alternator - Golf 1.8 TSI Was told there was nothing available OEM (Bosch) in Canada, and couldn't tell me when one would be available. Was quoted CAD$1800!! + install labor. Found a used OEM one at the scrap yard for CAD$50....

Pros: found used OEM one
Cons: nothing available OEM

Mobil Engine oil

Installed new oil and filter, plus BG oil flush, ran at idle for 30 minutes (warm-up, plus 15 minutes). Changed oil and filter again, using Mobil 5W40 Euro oil.

  • Chips/cracks:

windshield randomly cracked in the summer heatwave. No impact yet vw refuses to replace it. These are obviously defective. Don't know what course of action is appropriate but I'm not happy.

Cons: randomly cracked, defective
Vehicle: Volkswagen Tiguan
