OEM Volkswagen Wiper blades
31337hacker
Rating 5.0
 • Wipe quality:
 • Streaks/chatter:

You pretty much have to have your heat and fan set to max on your windshield with your wipers going constantly. That’s how I managed to keep my wipers from freezing up in a winter storm. And this was with a Volkswagen Jetta.

Pros: wipers not freezing

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

My 17 S is sitting at 108k. Only issues I’ve had outside of normal maintenance has been a water pump at 102k and cam magnets at 103k. It’s been the model of reliability and its nearly still as tight as it was when new.

Pros: model of reliability
Cons: water pump, cam magnets
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 108000 km

 • Leaks:

Maintenance is king on these cars. They also need to be driven hard every blue moon as well. I’ve been is38 stage 2 since 42k. Currently at 173k with no issues outside of the standard waterpump which was replaced at 125k.

Pros: no issues
Cons: standard waterpump
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 125000 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

My 2019 is at 110k. Other than maintenance items like tires, oil, spark plugs ect, the one thing I had to fix was the water pump at 97k. It's been flawless otherwise.

Pros: flawless otherwise
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 110000 km

OEM Volkswagen Water pump

I drive my 2017 everyday to work and just hitting 95k miles. I'm the only owner and the biggest issue has just been the water pump. It started to leak around 36k but otherwise had been sold.

Pros: good car
Cons: water pump leak
Vehicle: Volkswagen
Mileage: 95000 km

OEM Volkswagen Cabin filter

It's not just the price/range keeping me away from this... I saw the video on changing a cabin air filter on this thing.

If that's how the air filter was engineered, I have my doubts about the rest of the vehicle.

Cons: doubts about engineering

OEM Volkswagen Ignition coil
m4dm4cs
Rating 1.0
 • Warning light:

My first car was a Volkswagen Passat. I was on a budget and got a good deal on a really nice car. It was a dream to ride, except when everything kept going wrong. I went through multiple ignition coils, the car caught fire (bad coil, again) and had thousands in damage. Beyond that, getting tires balanced wasn’t a simple job. Everywhere needed to special order shims from Germany because that’s the only way a Volkswagen tire could be balanced.

Pros: dream to ride, good deal
Cons: car caught fire, expensive maintenance

OEM Volkswagen Antifreeze
Cautious-Concept457
Rating 2.0
 • Temperature stability:

I see your reservoir says G13 mit Silikat. Would recommend getting rid of G13 and removing the bag. G13 causes corrosion (resulting in a leak at the shaft of the water pump), leaves deposits (clogging the heater core and resulting in engine overheating), etc. Flush the system a couple times with distilled water and then fill up with G12evo coolant which doesn’t have these issues.

Pros: G12evo coolant better
Cons: G13 causes corrosion

OEM Volkswagen Oil filter

B5 Passat (and Audi A4, same gen), 1.8T.

Filter - a big-ass 1.5 liter spin-on - mounted at an angle, directly above the front subframe.

Remove from top, after relocating the coolant tank.

Strategically use absorbent mat (floor diaper) to contain the inevitable spill.

Pros: mounted at an angle
Cons: inevitable spill
