Brake discs Raybestos or OEM Volkswagen
I also did the upgrade (after thoroughly reading the golfdave thread), as I hated how grabby and sticky the stock brakes were. For me, it was totally worth it. The larger front rotors have made the brakes way more linear and easy to modulate. The extra thermal capacity is just a bonus.
I’m running Raybestos rotors (good warranty and price) with Stoptech Sport pads and I like the brakes quite a bit.
The only thing I have done to it before the most recent work was to change out the rotors and pads.
Stock rotors are cheap and effective anything bigger is just for show.
GTI Clubsport rotors drop 2.2lbs per side at the front
I priced out parts at $201 + S&H for premium raybestos rotors and pads at all 4 corners for a 2012 outback 2.5l on rockauto. Will be better than new for less than half the price.
This problem started after I changed the rear VW brakes rotors and rear VW pads and changed all four wheels with remanufactured VW Phaeton wheels.
I'm actually running corrado g60 rotors right now that i redrilled to 5 bolt since my last set warped.
Imperfections in either the brake rotors or pads making gouge marks in my rotors
Here's a shot of my rear rotors. They both look like this. To quote my service manager "we looked at some other cars and they all look like this, so this looks like normal wear". Not buying it. My b6 passat has 180K miles and those rotors are super smooth.
