Brake discs STOPTECH or OEM Volkswagen
I have had a great experience with my Centric (Stoptech) high carbon cryo-treated plain rotors, stoptech street pads, RBF600
Went with Stoptech slotted, EBC reds, Stoptech SS lines, Stoptech STR-600 fluid.
Made a night & day difference on my non PP 15 SE.
Granted, I really push the car often in the mountains. But the change to this refresh was immediately noticeable. Fade takes a much longer time to set in. But it will still set in. There's far better options if you push it a lot.
But it's such a massive improvement over stock. Which would have fade set in almost immediately after a few harsher corners.
Rotors are good. Least amount of balancing machining marks I’ve seen on single piece aftermarket rotors.
I used Tire Rack for Stoptech rotors. Not sure if it’s really a bonus but I sprung for the cryo-sportstop. They look great and are smooth. I wouldn’t look at Stillen rotors. They were unbalanced garbage.
I had shake and brake at 30k. warped rotors, replaced the rotors and pad, all good again
Swapped them out for Stoptech drilled/slotted rotors and the problem was better.
I'm using StopTech's 1-piece drilled and cryo-treated rotors and EBC Redstuff pads and have been extremely impressed with their performance on the street.Very good braking and fairly low dust and/or noise.
Mine are 288 fronts (yeah, I measured) and combined with the pitiful rears the whole systems is not (as I've read many times) "sufficient for daily driving". Too many times I've worried I won't stop in time. Too many times I've come down an average hill with definite fade that made me worry should an animal dart out in front of me. I want something akin to my GTI's brakes. Not something that will stop a freight train but just something I know will stop. And stop firm every time. Definitely OEM . I'd rather not have red but whatever I have, it will have to match front/rear. After reading the limited information I can find across multiple forums, nothing has mentioned swapping the front TDI brakes (if they are actually 310mm) over to a 2.5l. It would seem that if the caliper is the same 2.5 to TDI, all you would really need is the rotor and the TDI carrier, correct? Regarding the rears, nothing seems available straight off the OEM shelf, except GTI, correct? Any non-red options there?
Imperfections in either the brake rotors or pads making gouge marks in my rotors
Here's a shot of my rear rotors. They both look like this. To quote my service manager "we looked at some other cars and they all look like this, so this looks like normal wear". Not buying it. My b6 passat has 180K miles and those rotors are super smooth.
