VALEO Clutch kit
billymade
Rating 4.0
  • Engagement smoothness:
  • Noise:

A solid flywheel conversion clutch kit is popular; I have heard good things about the Valeo solution but if you want the quiet , smooth operation you are used to.... Stick with the stock setup. A friend of ours put the Valeo kit; in his 1st generation Audi TT 1.8t 5 speed and he has been happy with it.. Valeo has designed all the parts to work together and the disk, has some dampening springs built into it, in attempt to replicate a dual mass flywheel.

Pros: good things heard
Cons: less quiet, less smooth
Vehicle: Audi TT

Brake job coming up this weekend. New rotors (Centric blanks, OEM size) are still in transit to my door... but here's the good stuff. Ferodo DS2500 brake pads and RBS600.

Pros: good stuff

NITTO Tires

While 255/35/19 still worked just fine, I feel that 245/35/19 is the best set up on a 19x8.5 rims. the outer lip of the tires will protect the rims, as the 245 tires will not be stretched on 8.5 rims.

Pros: protect the rims

Brembo Brake caliper

Stock brakes are most excellent for doing a single, high speed, emergency stop. They are designed around that. If you plan on driving the car quite aggressively, or tracking it, you'll need to improve upon the stock setup. Good pads, a flush with good fluid, and stainless lines will do wonder for both fade resistance and pedal feel. You don't need big Brembos or an aftermarket caliper to track a car, and you can even aggressively track a car with improved stock brakes; you just need to adjust your driving style. In general, aftermarket calipers are largely for show, but hey...if you're going to splurge on something that isn't \"necessary\", it might as well be your brakes versus something else!

Pros: excellent for emergency stops, improve fade resistance
Cons: need improvement for aggressive driving
Vehicle: Audi SQ5

Nokia Tires
GordV
Rating 4.0
  • Grip:
  • Noise:

I have Nokian WRG3 18's on my S3. They are traction rated so I can use them up in the mountains without chains but are also rated for \"year round\" use (with a mileage rating!) so they don't wear as quickly in typical Portland, OR winter weather (wet and just above freezing). So I use those Nov-April and my 19's the rest of the year. I'm pretty happy with the overall feel and noise level of the tires.

Pros: happy with feel, noise level
Cons: wear quickly
Vehicle: Audi S3

DUNLOP Tires

I love running Dunlop Wintersport 3D's and 4D's on performance cars. They don't feel like winter tires at all when the roads are clean. They offer dry/warm grip on par with performance tires.

Pros: dry/warm grip
Cons: none
Vehicle: Audi S4

  • Acceleration:

For the OEM Bosch plugs, I would check them every 10k-15k miles at a minimum, based on what my stock plugs looked like @ 19k miles (sh!t).

Cons: poor condition at 19k miles
Vehicle: Audi
Mileage: 19000 km
