OEM Volkswagen Brake pads

Rating 4.5
 • Braking:

When I traded our ‘17 Gsw with 191k mi. it still had original brakes all around. We try to be easy on the brakes, coast down to 40 or so if possible before using brakes at stop signs.

Pros: original brakes lasted long
Mileage: 191000 km

 • Braking:
 • Dust:

I’ve been using Akebono pads on my Mk4 20AE for a while and have been very happy with them. Very low dust. They don’t have the initial bite of a stock pad but I’ve never had an issue with the braking performance. I use them for hpde track days also. Additionally, very easy on rotors.

Pros: very low dust, easy on rotors
Cons: no initial bite

Took my 2019 Golf R to the track with stock pads and rotors. The brakes started smelling really bad after 20 minutes of track time, and squealing a bit. Didn’t lose braking power significantly, but this is what they look like afterwards.

Cons: smelling bad, squealing

I'm convinced the MK6 just has shitty brakes (I mean they do stop but I think they're just bad). I've had 2 of them and they both wear unevenly, hang up, or just in general wear out too quickly.

Cons: wear unevenly, wear out quickly
