I think those are only on mk1's. The only bad thing about them is they are so old the the surface the brake pad ears slide on gets worn so the pads get more play. If it's bad enough, the anti-rattle clips tend to fall out and then they really rattle. Nevertheless, still way better than the old square girlie pad system.
Best Brake pads for Volkswagen Golf
I put brakes from a 2008 R32 on my MK6 gti. They were cheaper than the golf r on ebay at the time. They work really well.
Mk6 2.5L A/T. They just work. Brakes last forever, no engine or transmission issues, none of the weird mk4 body problems with windows or wipers, just great cars.
I have Akebono's on the rear of my R. VERY low dust from both.
I ordered Centric blanks and powerstop z23 pads off of Rockauto after doing a lot of research. Have had them on my 2016 GTI for 6 months or so. No regrets, they're great. AND super cheap.
I put the z23 pads and drilled and slotted rotors on my golf mk7.5 and virtually no dust.
To save you money, they probably did not need to change right rear caliper if only your left one was seized. They also could’ve given you options for prices on brakes and rotors as it appears they quoted you for dealer quality brake pads.
TRW Ceramic Pads: Good for city driving, almost not dust, would not recommend for any track
I used Stoptech sport pads and am kind of regretting it. They don't seem to have great initial bite so I may swap to something else this summer.
I swapped out the rear pads on my 2017 Mk7 Golf R following the instructions for doing so with OBD Eleven Pro to a "t" and still wound up with a plethora of error codes. I installed new (Ferrodo) pads
