Just wanted to update for the sake of others wanting to change their own battery. I went ahead and picked up a new battery from the VW Stealership for $150 (after tax and disposal fee's) It was exactly the same as the one i took out.

Apparently my flywheel crapped out. The tech said it has excessive play. The clutch pedal is a little stiffer, which is probably a good thing.
I cant say that the CC brakes are small or bad really?! As being 345mm on the front and 310mm on the rear they are stopping the car really good actually.
I read up some online and decided to order new ignition coils. Took a few days, but I got four new coils and threw them in. Again, problem solved it seemed. No more EPC light, misfire codes didn't come back and no more rough starts.
I would not buy a GTI without the Performance Pack (i.e., this \"diff\"). It is good on paper, and every single review I have read makes it sound genius in the real world.
Can't beat the 2.5 for hassle free reliability. Economy sucks, though. I have had my 130k mile 2.5 Rabbit since new and I have never averaged more than 25-26mpg in mixed driving, but on the other hand I haven't done much more than oil changes and spark plugs on it.
I have owned my B6 since new and had the thermostat replaced under Warranty around 36,000 miles, at that point the slow warm up was causing the MIL to illuminate with a error that basically said warm up outside specification.
Mine are 288 fronts (yeah, I measured) and combined with the pitiful rears the whole systems is not (as I've read many times) "sufficient for daily driving". Too many times I've worried I won't stop in time. Too many times I've come down an average hill with definite fade that made me worry should an animal dart out in front of me. I want something akin to my GTI's brakes. Not something that will stop a freight train but just something I know will stop. And stop firm every time. Definitely OEM . I'd rather not have red but whatever I have, it will have to match front/rear. After reading the limited information I can find across multiple forums, nothing has mentioned swapping the front TDI brakes (if they are actually 310mm) over to a 2.5l. It would seem that if the caliper is the same 2.5 to TDI, all you would really need is the rotor and the TDI carrier, correct? Regarding the rears, nothing seems available straight off the OEM shelf, except GTI, correct? Any non-red options there?
the car is a 1996 golf gl, 5 speed, with A/C (this is relevant to the alternator spec) Original problem, car not charging and replacement alternators were no good
I have a 99.5 vr6 2.8 afp and missing a alternator ground i think I am getting 20 intermittent ground fault codes and the kid i bought the car from had a alternator put in.
